Our United We Stitch panels will be on display this Sunday, September 20th, 10 am - 4 pm, on the Courthouse Lawn adjacent to the Statehouse in Montpelier. Please come by and see some of our hopes and dreams for the future of Democracy.

This grassroots effort invited individuals, groups and organizations to create cloth panels that answered these simple but powerful questions:

What do you love about your country?

What future do you desire for all of us?

In honor of our country’s 250th anniversary, the measurements of the panels (3’ x 5’) is intentional, representing the size of a residential United States flag. The collection of panels envision the hopes and dreams of each artist for our democracy. Artists used fabric, glue, stitches, paint, stencils, iron on pieces and more.

We’re not exaggerating when we say each one is unique, original, and so worth seeing!

In addition to these 50 panels, the exhibit features a striking 6’ x 12’ cloth centerpiece. This collective work brings together over 160 handwritten hopes and fears for our country, sewn together to evoke the image of the US flag.

“Any form of art is a form of power; it has impact, it can affect change - it can not only move us, it makes us move.” - Ossie Davis

We hope you can join us to view this community art project - by the people, for the people!

Please be aware that Playing Fields, an outdoor performance by the Flynn Center for the Arts, will take place on the State House lawn at 1:00. The show is free to the public but you may want to plan for parking around that time.

Rain Date: Sunday, September 27
